The Malabari  Unity

Islam is a Brotherhood  that unites Muslims together across the Islamic world. The importance of brotherhood in Islam can not be over stressed. There are many hadiths relating to the fact the Muslims are a single united body, each part responsible for the other. Accordingly if one of the parts is injured or hurt then the rest of the body immediately feels that pain and is certainly uncomfortable at the situation until it is rectified without delay. The brotherhood of Muslims is a very deep and wide concept that guarantees the safety and well being of the Society at large. Islam being a complete way of life is primarily for the society, it promotes a healthy and a well disciplined life style in every sense of the word.

"Muslims in their caring, mercy, and support for each others, is like one body, when a part of it suffers from pain, the rest of it would suffer by a fever and sleeplessness.” (Hadith)

Have you heard the term ' kaka' being used to refer to Malabaris? Some say that the term 'kaka' for Malabari are meant  as  an elder brother as used my some Malabari themselves . They are others who say that it means 'crows'. This is  to show that Malabari are united and like the crows that  flock around united to offer help for the one of them are in need. Though it is deemed derogatory by some, the meaning behind it, whichever it may be shows brotherhood and unity of Malabaris since the earliest of times. The non Muslims  joined the brotherhood of Islam in large groups because of the unity seen among them. In the 'dheen' of Islam they  would be able to escape the stigma carried by the caste difference and live together in harmony which would otherwise be non existent. We were the living example of this statement. Our forefathers were united in their struggle when  the oppression of the British were aimed specifically at them, at one time.

" And hold fast all together by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you) and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favor on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love so that by His grace ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make his signs clear to you: that ye may be guided". (Verse 013, Al-i-Imran).

“Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong; they are the ones to attain success.” (3:102-14)

Now of late we are again at a crossroad. The unity of the community is at risk as seen by some events which has occured recently . History shows that even the greatest of empires,- Muslim and non Muslim- fell at the time when the people were not united. We feel that this trend has to be stopped to prevent any sectarianism and further destruction in the community. In order to move forward into this 21st century, we have to resolve all our differences and unite our efforts as an Ummah as mentioned by Allah swt in Surah Ali imran: Together hold Allah `s rope firmly and do not become sects.[Surah Ali  Imran, Ayah 103]

It is self-evident that the consequences of disunity are all detrimental to the Ummah in general and to each Muslim in particular. The Ummah becomes weak; suffers from low morale; wastes time and energy addressing minor problems, personal conflicts arise; factual problems are ignored and more attention is paid to attitudinal problems. And while all this happening, the enemies of Islam are rejoicing. We need to address the problem of disunity with great urgency but also with great care because it is going to be the basis of our entire argument in support of unity.

We would like you to share your opinion why this has happened and how to overcome it. Insha Allah this will help is to move ahead to achieve the glory that is destined for us all. Ameen
