Visit by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed

6 Sept 2005-The Indian High Commission Organized a function to greet the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed. many prominent members of the Malaysian Indian Communities were present at this function. These include about 30 members of the Malabari community form Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan
Mr. E Ahmed a Malabari who hails from Ponnani, Kerala has been member of the Lok Sabha (lower house of the Indian Parliament House ) for the last 5 years. He is currently Indian Minister of State for External Affairs and gained fame in saving 6 Indian hostages in Iraq recently. He also holds many high posts in central agencies and committees including the Cental hajj Committee. Although this is his first official visit to Malaysia Mr. Ahmed has been to Malaysia twice before.Mr E Ahmed was well known to many here form his previous visits to Malaysia. He also had another function in Johor Bharu where he met with the Malabar Muslim there. This gathering was held in Wisma MTP in Johor Bharu. The Minister also had met with the Malaysian Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar to discuss bilateral Issues.
The function started at about 6.00 pm where the Indian High Commissioner Mr Narayanan introduced the Honorable Minister. Mr E Ahmed then addressed the floor for about 45 minutes touching on the developments in India and its growing potential for investors. he then answered questions form the floor. the main concern from the floor was the educational opportunities in India. Mr Ahmed told the floor about discussions under way to build a dental college in Kepala Batas and plans to set up a university in India exclusively for PIO. The All Malayasia Malayalee Association, , Mamanggam and The Indian Expatriates Association presented mementos to the Honorable Ministers The function was then adjourned after dinner.
