Education and Malabari

This is an interesting discussion regarding Malabari and their education. More relevant to the youngsters in the community, who might be the biggest group of users of the internet and e-Malabari.

I belief that we have came far from we were regarding education. There are more professionals among Malabaris, such as doctors, engineers, accountants, lawyers, executives. Gone were the days were most of the children will just follow the father or parents footsteps of continuing with the family business of looking after shops, etc.

Even if there are youngsters involved in businesses, most of them are more modern, and thinking ahead by having a much larger scales businesses, which are more benefiting and provide more job opportunities for other people. This might due to the fact that they have background education which are helping them to make these large decisions, and running these big businesses.

Education is very important in our life. Still, there is not much exposure among Malabaris regarding the requirements to get a place in universities, etc. Most people think that academic achievement itself is sufficient. Actually, there are many aspects, such as the positions of responsibilities that you held at school, and also how active you were in extra-curricular activities in school, which also counts in securing a place in higher education.

I had the fortunate chance of sitting in with the Dean of my medical school recently to interview potential medical students for the upcoming academic year. All of the students had good results, and mostly are best students of their respective schools. But, what the universities are looking for are how well-rounded you are, and the contribution that you can make to the medical school that you will be in. Definitely, in interviews, communication skills and good impression all counts.

I strongly believe that family support is a very important factor for a person to succeed and to have a sustained interest in education.
